Nipper Annual Proficiency Requirements

It is a requirement of the Surf Life Saving Australia Association that prior to participation in any junior activity each season (1st July to 30th June) ALL Junior Activities members complete a Skill Preliminary Evaluation. This Skill evaluation will be on Sun 10th September 2017 at DRAC Aquatic Centre (Maroubra) from 12.00 midday till 4pm.  

The requirements are listed below:

U6

From a standing position in waist deep water perform a front glide and recover to a secure position.  Perform a back or front float holding a buoyant aid and recoverto a secure position.

 

U7

From a standing position in waist deep water perform a front glide, kick for 3m and recover to a secure position. Perform a back or front float for a few seconds and recover to asecure position.

 
U8 25m swim (any stroke) 1 minute survival float
U9 25m swim (any stroke) 1 minute survival float
U10 25m swim (any stroke) 1.5 minute survival float
U11 50m swim (Freestyle) 2 minute survival float
U12 100m swim (Freestyle) 2 minute survival float
U13 150m swim (Freestyle) 3 minute survival float
U14 200m swim (Freestyle in less than 5 min) 3 minute survival float

 

JUNIOR COMPETITION SKILL EVALUATION - Open Water Swim
To be eligible for competition, junior members must complete an open water swim which replicates the junior swim distances specified in the 34th edition of the Surf Sports Manual.  The competition evaluation (open water swim) must be achieved before members are eligible to compete in inter-club competition. This is a minimum standard water proficiency requirement. This competition evaluation will take place over the first two (2) weeks of nipper activities in October.

NOTE: U/14 members who have successfully completed the SRC award or SRC proficiency after 1st July 2017 and prior to commencing Junior Activities for the 2017/2018 season are not required to complete the Junior Activities Preliminary Skills Evaluation or the Junior Activities Competition Skills Evaluation. All Junior Evaluations / Proficiencies are to be completed on the Surf Life Saving NSW Proficiency Test Work Card.

Nil (no water competition, except for wade which takes place in waist deep water)

U10 Minimum 150m open water swim (competition course as per competition manual)
U11 Minimum 288m open water swim (competition course as per competition manual)
U12 Minimum 288m open water swim (competition course as per competition manual) 
U13 Minimum 288m open water swim (competition course as per competition manual) 
U14 Minimum 288m open water swim (competition course as per competition manual)
