South Maroubra surf lifesavers patrol our beach from September through to April on every weekend and public holiday. Our patrol teams are made up of members ranging from age 13 years upwards who have been trained in the skills, techniques and procedures for either the Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion award. Many members have further gained specialised lifesaving awards, which has increased their skills and knowledge. We have an extensive range of lifesaving equipment provided by our very generous sponsors, which is utilised in the role we play during the summer season on our beach – protecting the beach users.

The primary role of Surf Life Saving Club’s is the protection of the surfing public and the saving of lives. In order for clubs to carry out this important role, South Maroubra rosters its qualified volunteers into patrol teams grouped around their surf lifesaving experience, skills and knowledge. These teams are rostered for an approximate 8 patrols each during the 2017/2018 season at South Maroubra. Each patrol team has a designated Patrol Team Captain and Vice Captain who are responsible for the management of the team whilst on patrol.  Click on Patrol Teams from the Lifesaving drop down menu to download this seasons patrol lists and roster calendar.

Patrol team members are identified by the distinctive DHL sponsored ‘Surf Rescue uniform’ of red/yellow quartered cap, yellow long sleeve t shirt and red shorts.

Membership of surf lifesaving is invaluable and South Maroubra encourages anyone to take the plunge and enquire about joining to see what opportunities surf lifesaving can offer and the rewards your membership will give you as a surf lifesaver.

From time to time there are necessary changes made to the Patrol Teams list during the season. Updated copies of the Patrol Teams list are always posted on the clubs notice board and in the patrol box and will also this season be available on the clubs website.

The Lifesaving Committee this season urges all members to consider up-skilling their awards and lifesaving experience, by training for new awards.
