Members and friends are invited to enjoy Australia Day at South Maroubra Surf Club - Heritage room.  Club room and bar will be open from 11am till 6pm.  We only have a limited number of tables and chairs so first in best dressed and due to licensing laws ALL alcohol must be purchased from the club bar without exception as police will be patrolling the area, Aus day activities will be run through the day and welcome Member participation, BYO meat or food for the BBQ, cutlery etc and enjoy what has been traditionally a great day down at the beach

Rookies finished with another strong second place in the U19 Male Surf Boat Final on Saturday at Queenscliff .   The crew were leading the whole race until Bulli squeezed pasted they from lengths behind on a nice wave.  Congrats to our U19 boaties.

Attached within this article is a list of all members and their patrol hours for competition eligibility.  Under 15 and Active members need to have completed a min of 25 hours whilst Active Reserve members need to have completed 12.  These requirements need to be completed by 31st December.  This report was formulated on 12/01/2017

South Maroubra Surf Club Life Member, Bernie Kelly, passed away on 18th January 1998 after performing mass rescues at South Maroubra Beach.  Each year our surf club joins together around this time to remember the ultimate sacrifice that Bernie gave.  Members and friends are invited to join the club management and fellow Life Members for a beverage in the surf club Heritage room on Sunday 22nd January 2017 from 12 noon.  RIP Bernie

Nicholas Pavlakis recently attended the NSW Development Newwork Program.  A program developing leaders and we look forward to hearing back from Nick on this weekend.  Well done Nick.

Nicole Krite recently had the experience of SLSNSW Beach to Bush program.  A program designed to give those children in the country areas of NSW, some of whom have never been to the beach, the opportunity to be exposed to surf safety and the environment we all have right on our doorstep.  Well done Nixy, your enthusiasm for SLS would have been greatly appreciated by these communities.

The Rookies crew have also rowed strongly in the first two rounds of the Ocean Thunder against the top A (Open) Crews in the Country as our A Crew didn't get off the ground.  Our Rookies have been doing us proud and scaring a few of the big A Crews.

Across the long weekend, amongst all the footy finals fever a brave group of our U10 & and U11 Nippers competed in the Forster Weekend of Surf event. 

Outstanding performance by the kids at Warilla, Every child performed admirably, with the vast improvement there for all to see.

We are looking for anyone interested in competing for South Maroubra this upcoming summer season.  It is a great way for members to become more involved, increase fitness and improve your skills relevant to saving lives.

Attached is our club coaching timetable for flags, sprints, surf and board training for 2016. 

All members and friends are welcome to celebrate and watch the 2016 NRL Grand Final at the club in our Heritage room.  Bar opens at 3pm with big screen viewing with multiple TV's.  $5 pick the score, $10 sweeps, Auction for 1st Try Scorer - Prizes galour.  BBQ facilities available for members use.  See full information within the attached flyer.

Attached to this article is this season's Patrol Teams and Patrol Roster.  This information has also been emailed to each patrolling member.  Patrols commence on Sat 24th September 2016.

Officials are those members responsible for the conduct of sports events within Surf Life Saving and there are a range of different roles undertaken by Officials including referees, starters, judges, recorders and marshals.  To become an Official you must be 16 yrs or older, a financial member of South Maroubra SLSC and attend an Officials Course.  If you are interested then please review the attached flyer on upcoming Officials Courses.

New and existing members that wish to gain their Bronze Medallion (15yrs +) or the Surf Rescue Certificate (13+) are encouraged to attend our BM/SRC introduction night being held at the South Maroubra Surf Club on Tuesday 4th October commencing at 6.30pm.  Training will commence the week after this induction and will take approximately 8 weeks.  Enquiries to Michael Fernandez Email:  education.smslsc.gmail.com
